La Trobe University Centre for Dialogue
Education Dialogue Project All-Day Workshop for Senior-Secondary School Teachers
La Trobe University, Bundoora (RSVP by Friday 20 October). Intercultural Dialogue in the teaching of the Humanities, English, and related domains. The workshop will be of particular interest to those teaching in the VELS domains of Humanities-History, English, and Civics and Citizenship (level 6), as well as VCE Humanities and English subjects. It will be a unique event because of its focuses on how years 9-12 teachers and coordinators can incorporate the idea of intercultural dialogue into their teaching methods. As well as considering ways of incorporating the tenets of intercultural dialogue into units and lesson plans, the workshop will also hear from proponents of the ‘Restorative Justice’ and ‘Active Listening’ approaches. These speakers will prompt us to consider communicating in ways that might improve our capacity to empathize and understand those of unfamiliar cultures and worldviews.
